How To
Load a Scanner Unit

Loading your scanner unit incorrectly can cause many different kinds of errors, from printing problems to drained batteries to display issues. It is a very common mistake made by even the most experienced individuals. This section is designed as a step-by-step tutorial and offers other suggestions for checking your scanner while loading the labels.

Before you start, get your Monarch 6037 Scanner Unit, battery, and labels. The battery should be fully charged and the labels should be checked for any damage to them that could cause feed problems later on. Some of the key things to look for on your labels are tears, labels peeling off of the backing on their own, and discoloration of the labels. While discoloration will not cause feed problems directly, it is a sign that the labels are old or otherwise not in good condition and should be replaced.

Once you have all of your equipment, you are ready to start loading your labels. Insert the battery in the scanner unit and power it on. While it is loading, you can begin putting the labels in.

The first step in loading your labels is to open the supply cover. Push in the two yellow latch buttons located on the sides of the supply cover and lift up.

Next, locate the spring-loaded supply holders inside of the unit. These holders look like propellers facing each other. Separate these supply holders so that you have enough space to fit the roll of labels.

Insert the roll of labels in between the supply holders, with the labels feeding out of the bottom of the roll towards the front of the unit. The roll should fit securely on the beveled edges in the middle of the supply holders, and should spin in them when the labels are pulled out. Peel and discard the first four inches or so of labels from the backing paper.

On the front of the gun is a black plastic deflector that clips to the unit. Gently push down on the deflector and swivel it out away from the gun.

Take the end of the labels and feed them under the applicator roll, over the peel bar and under the label deflector. The peel bar is the skinny silver bar, and it is very important that the labels are fed over this bar!

Once the labels are fed correctly, push the label deflector up until it snaps back into place, then close the supply cover.

Pull the label backing paper over the guide rollers and down to the pinch and feed rollers. Hold the paper between these bottom two rollers and print a label. This will feed the label backing through the rollers and hold them tight. If there is any slack in the backing paper, pull it down towards the bottom of the handle until the slack is gone.

The labels should print and dispense over the label deflector, while the backing is fed under the deflector. If the labels dispense, but do not print (or print only partially), make sure that the supply cover is latched all the way down.
